Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao pricey gift of worth Rs five crore ornaments to Lord Balaji on Wednesday came under sharp criticism from the Opposition.
Senior Congress leader and minister M Shashidhar Reddy said "It's not correct for KCR to use public money for his personal vows to God. Government should make public what transparency was maintained in the making of ornaments offered to Lord Venkateswara.
To whom this contract was given, it should be made public." Reddy, who was also a former vice-chairman of National Disaster Management Authority, said he would write a letter to the Executive Officer of TTD, the body that administers the Lord Venkateswara temple, seeking disclosure of the value of jewelry.
Telangana BJP spokesman Krishna Sagar Rao, too, attacked the Chief Minister for spending "public money for personal reasons". "He is possibly the only CM in the entire country today who spends public money so brazenly for personal reasons," he said.
