A young Indian student who hails from Kerala has successfully created a functional robotic suit despite having a very small budget. Vimal Govin Manikandan from MES College of Engineering in Kerala built the battery powered and functional exoskeleton by spending just Rs. 51,000.
Manikandan is confident that his suit will be put to good use by the military in the future for lifting weights of up to 150 kgs. Manikandan project was selected amongst applicants belonging to 13 countries for a special conference on mechanics and manufacturing in Singapore.
Although Manikandan’s suit is not free of glitches like lack of maneuverability for the user and short battery-life, he is confident that his invention will be developed for better if he manages to find the right sponsors.
